1991 - Ian Bradley and David Watts (Hospital Entertainment Ltd)
The 1991 Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (South East) was won by Ian Bradley and David Watts and their business Hospital Entertainment Ltd.
Ian says on his time at the company: "I came up with the idea of providing TV rental at the bedside of NHS patients & started Hospital Entertainment with my business partner David Watts. We acquired our main competitor in 1994 (a subsidiaryThorn EMI) & franchised the business across the UK. We grew the operation to over 150 hospital contracts & eventually sold to Patientline plc."
Patientline plc, together with is subsidiaries, develops and operates bedside communication systems for hospital patients and hospitals in the United Kingdom. Its systems comprise a bedside unit at each bed. These terminals are networked to a control room on site, containing a head end for television and radio, telephone switch or equivalent, and a series of computer servers to manage the system. The company also offers access to Internet, email, and games, as well as provides electronic menu display and food ordering facility through its terminals. It provides this service to over 10 million patients across the United Kingdom.
